Botox in Sarasota, FL

Sarasota Botox provider, Brandon Lambiris MD, addresses age-related skin changes such as crows’ feet, eyebrow furrows, and forehead wrinkles with Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport at his plastic surgery practice in Sarasota County.

With extensive training in cosmetic injectables, he smooths wrinkles and fine lines without noticeably altering your appearance.

What Is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved cosmetic injectable that temporarily reduces wrinkles and fine lines caused by making facial expressions. When injected into the target facial muscle(s), Botox interrupts the receptors that signal facial expressions so the skin overlying the muscle remains smooth and relaxed.

Who is a Candidate?

Wrinkle injections such as Botox are suitable for people who want to reduce rhytides and fine wrinkles caused by making facial expressions.

Pregnant women and patients who have certain medication conditions such as uncontrolled bleeding disorders, a history of keloid scarring, or an active skin infection at the treatment site may be ineligible for treatment.

Botox Procedure

Many of our Sarasota Botox patients choose to have injections the same day as their consultation. The injection process usually takes 15 minutes. During treatment using Botox Sarasota plastic surgeon, Dr. Lambiris inserts a needle or cannula to dispense the product below the skin and into the muscle. This process is relatively painless.

Botox Recovery

As a ‘lunch-hour treatment’, there is no recovery period or social downtime in most cases. Redness, headache, swelling, and tenderness at the injection site are the most commonly reported side effects. These effects are temporary and tend to resolve in the first 24 to 48 hours. Bruising is uncommon but possible.

Botox Results

Botox takes up to two weeks to start working. During the first 14 days, the treated wrinkles and fine lines appear to soften and gradually fade as the drug takes effect on the muscle(s).

Botox and alternatives are short-term treatments that deliver long-term results. The results typically last three to six months on average. During this time, the treated muscles gradually regain movement and the expression lines begin to reappear. To maintain the results long-term, come in for a touch-up when the effects of Botox start to wear off.

Are there any Botox alternatives?

Botox is the first line of defense against expression lines for many patients, although options such as Xeomin and Dysport are equally as effective. Dr. Lambiris offers all three anti-wrinkle injections at his Sarasota practice.

Xeomin

Like Botox, Xeomin treats frown lines that develop between the brows as well as crow's feet and forehead lines in a series of quick injections. Xeomin is different from Botox since it contains a single ingredient: botulinum toxin A. There are no additives in this ultra-pure formulation. It takes approximately the same number of Xeomin units to achieve the same result as Botox. The results last just as long in most cases. Xeomin received FDA approval for frown lines in 2011.

Dysport

Dysport is a temporary wrinkle relaxant that works similarly to Botox. The key Dysport ingredient is abobotulinumtoxinA. It received FDA approval in 2009 for treating frown lines. Dysport has a more viscous formulation and tends to diffuse more smoothly within the treated area than Botox. According to the FDA, it takes approximately 3x more Dysport to see the same result as Botox. The Dysport cost per unit is generally less than Botox since more units are needed to see the same result. The wrinkle-free results are just as long-lasting.

What are some reasons to choose Xeomin or Dysport instead of Botox?

While an allergy to Botox ingredients is rare, it is possible. Xeomin and Dysport are formulated differently and present an alternative wrinkle treatment when Botox is not advised due to an allergy.

In other cases, some patients find Botox doesn’t work anymore. This could be due to developing a resistance to the ingredients in Botox with repeat use. When Botox fails to deliver the expected result, it may be time to consider alternatives such as Dysport or Xeomin. Since the formulations are distinct, they can prove effective when Botox isn’t working anymore.

BOTOX FAQs

The average cost of Botox is $550. Each patient requires a different number of Botox units, therefore the only way to determine how much Botox costs for you as an individual is to come in for a consultation. The number of areas treated and the severity of wrinkles have the biggest impact on pricing. Dysport typically costs less than Botox per unit, however, you may need more units to see the desired effects. The final price is comparable whether you choose Dysport, Xeomin, or Botox. If you have other facial enhancements or cosmetic services at the same time, this will impact the final cost of treatment.

While some medical spas offer discounted Botox, remember you often get what you pay for. Some (but not all) providers excessively dilute Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, so you could end up paying for more units than you would need to see the same result at a plastic surgeon’s office.

Insurance does not cover Botox for wrinkles.

Most patients find Botox injections cause little to no pain. You will feel a quick pinch as Dr. Lambiris injects the product into the muscle. Tenderness at the injection site is mild and temporary. Headaches have been reported in the first 24 hours of treatment, although not everyone experiences this.

Botox is considered a minimally invasive procedure with low risks for eligible candidates. Risks may occur including prolonged swelling, bruising, asymmetry, eyelid drooping, temporary facial paralysis, granuloma, Botox migration, headache, dry eyes, blurred vision, allergic reaction, or dissatisfaction with results.

Muscle relaxant injections such as Botox treat expression lines, also known as dynamic wrinkles. Unlike dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Radiesse, muscle relaxants cannot effectively treat static wrinkles. Static wrinkles refer to creases that are visible even when the face is at rest. Dr. Lambiris uses his expertise to evaluate the skin and determine which wrinkle treatment will provide the best results.

Botox is an FDA-approved drug that has been rigorously safety-tested before earning approval. It is approved for use in nearly 80 nations across the world.

In the hands of an experienced Botox injector such as Dr. Brandon Lambiris, Botox will not make you look frozen. By placing a minimal amount of Botox in the target muscle, it will reduce wrinkled skin while still allowing nearby facial muscles to function and retain natural facial expressions with limited interference. The key is using the appropriate number of Botox units and not overdoing it.
