They Are Both Injectables—But They Do Different Jobs

“Should I get Botox or filler?” is one of the most common questions at an injectable consultation.

The answer is not based on age, a trend, or a standard package. Botox and dermal filler address different kinds of concerns. Some patients may be candidates for one, some for the other, and some for a carefully planned combination.

What Botox Addresses

Botox is typically used to temporarily relax selected muscles that create expression lines. It may be considered for forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, and other movement-related concerns.

Think of Botox as a treatment for movement.

What Dermal Filler Addresses

Dermal filler is used to add or restore support, structure, or volume in selected areas of the face. Depending on the individual plan, filler may be discussed for cheeks, lips, chin, jawline, folds around the mouth, or other areas.

Think of filler as a treatment for volume and structure.

The “I Look Tired” Example

A patient who says, “I look tired,” may not need the same treatment as someone who says, “My forehead lines bother me.”

  • If the concern appears mainly with facial movement, Botox may be part of the conversation.
  • If the concern is related to volume loss or facial support, filler may be considered.
  • If skin texture or laxity is the main issue, a laser, skincare, or surgical conversation may be more appropriate.

The consultation is about identifying the cause of the concern—not simply treating the area where you notice it.

Natural Results Come From a Plan

Natural-looking injectable work is not about doing the least possible or the most possible. It is about doing what is appropriate for your anatomy, goals, and comfort level.

I look at facial balance, movement, and proportion. I also consider whether a treatment should be staged. Patients do not need to make every change in one appointment.

When Neither May Be the Right Answer

Sometimes Botox and filler are not the best solution. If loose skin, deeper laxity, significant volume loss, or a medical skin condition is the underlying issue, we may discuss laser treatment, skincare, or a consultation with Dr. Lambiris instead.

A good injector should be comfortable telling you when not to inject.

FAQ

Can I get Botox and filler at the same visit?

For some patients, yes. Your plan should be based on your goals, anatomy, and medical history.

Which lasts longer?

Treatment duration varies based on the product, area treated, metabolism, and individual factors. We will discuss expectations at your consultation.

Will filler make me look overdone?

The goal is a balanced result that fits your face. Conservative, staged planning is an option for patients who want to begin gradually.

How do I know what I need?

Start with a consultation rather than trying to diagnose your own concern online.
