Patients often come in saying they want “laser treatment,” but that phrase can mean many different things. Some patients are looking for minimal downtime and a subtle refresh. Others are concerned about more established sun damage, deep wrinkles, scarring, or texture changes that require a more substantial conversation.
Patients often come in saying they want “laser treatment,” but that phrase can mean many different things. Some patients are looking for minimal downtime and a subtle refresh. Others are concerned about more established sun damage, deep wrinkles, scarring, or texture changes that require a more substantial conversation.
Contour TRL is a deep-level resurfacing treatment that allows for a highly customized approach. The goal is not to choose the strongest treatment for every person. The goal is to select a treatment depth, plan, and recovery process that match the concern we are actually treating.
At West Coast Plastic Surgery, I evaluate deeper resurfacing the same way I evaluate a surgical procedure: carefully, individually, and with a clear discussion of benefits, limitations, recovery, and safety.
The surface of the skin is affected by years of sun exposure, collagen loss, acne scarring, environmental stress, and natural aging. Deeper resurfacing treatments are designed to address more pronounced concerns by treating the skin at a more substantial level than lighter maintenance procedures.
For appropriate candidates, Contour TRL may be discussed for concerns such as:
A deeper treatment is not automatically the “better” treatment. It also comes with a more meaningful recovery process. That tradeoff must make sense for the patient.
The right candidate is not defined by age alone. I consider factors including:
A consultation is essential because certain skin conditions, medications, health factors, or recent treatments may mean a patient should postpone treatment, choose a different option, or follow a preparatory plan first.
Patients understandably ask how much downtime they will have. That is an important question, but it should not be the only one.
When a treatment goes deeper, recovery is often more visible and more involved. Redness, swelling, sensitivity, peeling, crusting, and temporary changes in skin appearance can be expected depending on the treatment plan. The exact experience varies by patient and treatment settings.
Rather than promising a universal timeline, we discuss what recovery may realistically require in your case. We also talk about work, travel, events, sun exposure, and the support you will need at home.
The best time to schedule a deeper resurfacing treatment is when you can give your skin the recovery it deserves—not the week before a major event.
Professional resurfacing is only one piece of the plan. Your skincare and sun-protection habits directly affect how you prepare, heal, and maintain your result.
Before treatment, we may recommend changes to your skincare routine or a skin-conditioning plan. After treatment, your instructions may include guidance on cleansing, hydration, sun avoidance, SPF, makeup, activity, and products to avoid. Follow those instructions exactly.
Sarasota sun exposure makes this especially important. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and careful sun protection are not optional if you want to protect an investment in resurfacing.
Deep resurfacing can improve skin quality, but it does not replace every treatment category.
It does not create the same result as a facelift when loose facial skin is the primary concern. It does not restore volume in the way filler or fat transfer may. It does not address every scar, pigment concern, or skin condition equally. And it cannot stop the aging process or replace daily skin care.
A responsible consultation identifies what may improve—and what requires a different conversation.
Your consultation is where we decide whether Contour TRL is worth the recovery for your goals. We examine your skin, review your history, discuss previous treatments, and talk honestly about what you want to improve.
If a lighter treatment, a different laser, skincare, injectables, or surgery is better suited to the concern, I will tell you. The goal is not to recommend the biggest treatment. It is to recommend the right one.
No. Laser and resurfacing treatments differ in technology, depth, recovery, and the concerns they may address. A consultation is needed to determine which option fits your goals.
It may be considered for certain scar and texture concerns, but candidacy depends on the type of scarring, active acne status, skin type, and medical history.
Recovery varies based on the treatment plan and individual healing. Dr. Lambiris will give you a personalized expectation during consultation.
Plan well ahead. Deeper resurfacing should not be scheduled at the last minute before an important event.
