For many first-time Botox patients, the biggest question is not “Will it work?” It is, “Will I still look like myself?”
That is the right question to ask. A good injectable plan should not erase your personality or make you look frozen. It should be tailored to the way your face moves, the concerns you notice, and the result you feel comfortable with.
At West Coast Plastic Surgery, your first Botox appointment begins with a consultation. We talk about what is bothering you, what you have noticed in photos or the mirror, your medical history, and whether Botox is the right fit for your goals. There is no one-size-fits-all number of units and no universal “ideal” result.
Botox is a neuromodulator treatment. It works by temporarily relaxing selected muscles that create expression lines. For appropriate patients, it may be used to soften the appearance of concerns such as:
Botox is not a dermal filler. It does not replace lost facial volume, reshape bone structure, or treat loose skin. Sometimes patients benefit from Botox alone; sometimes filler or another treatment is more appropriate. That is why assessment matters.
Your visit typically includes four parts:
We begin with the result you want—not a predetermined treatment plan. Some patients want subtle softening. Others are interested in preventative treatment. Some are concerned about one specific area. All of those goals are valid starting points.
I look at your face both at rest and in motion. This is important because injectables should respect the way your expressions naturally work. I also assess balance, skin quality, prior treatment history, and whether another option would better address your concern.
I explain what Botox may realistically improve, what it will not change, and what the treatment plan may look like. You should never feel pressured to treat an area you did not come in to discuss.
Botox appointments are typically brief. Most patients describe the injections as small pinches. Treatment is performed with a very fine needle, and you can return to many normal activities afterward, subject to your personalized instructions.
Natural Botox is not about using the same amount of product for every patient. It is about individualized placement, conservative planning when appropriate, and respecting facial movement.
At your first appointment, I would rather build a plan gradually than make you feel like you did too much too soon. We can reassess and adjust over time. A thoughtful approach gives you more control over your result.
Patients commonly have minor redness, small bumps at injection points, or tenderness immediately after treatment. These usually resolve quickly. It takes time for Botox to settle; you should not judge a final result on the same day.
I will review your specific aftercare instructions before you leave. If you have an event, photo shoot, or travel planned, schedule a consultation in advance rather than booking at the last minute.
A good consultation makes room for all of these questions.
A natural result is the goal for many patients. The plan is individualized around your movement, anatomy, and preference.
Duration varies by person, treatment area, metabolism, and dose. We discuss realistic expectations at your appointment.
Many patients begin with Botox. A consultation is the best way to determine whether it is appropriate for you.
For some patients, yes. Botox and filler address different concerns. Your consultation determines whether a combination plan makes sense.
